Executive Summary
REMUS is an FNR CORE research project conducted in collaboration with SES that designs and validates multi-orbit 3GPP New Radio Dual Connectivity (NR-DC) architectures. By combining a Geostationary (GEO) master node providing continuous umbrella coverage with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) secondary nodes delivering high-capacity spot beams, REMUS eliminates handover interruptions and maximizes end-to-end reliability.
Key Objectives & Contributions
- Multi-Orbit NR-DC Protocol Engineering: 3GPP NR-DC Configuration 1 with Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) traffic splitting and flow control across the
Xninterface under large differential GEO–LEO propagation delays. - Experimental Testbed Validation: Real-time OpenAirInterface (OAI) and hardware-in-the-loop channel emulation in the 6GSPACE Lab.
