Greedy User Scheduling and Beamforming for Holographic Communications
Abstract & Overview
This paper focuses on the challenge of joint hybrid holographic beamforming and user scheduling while guaranteeing per-user minimum Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints, a key concern in resource-limited wireless networks. However, this problem leads to a mixed-integer non-convex optimization formulation, making it computationally intractable to solve efficiently using conventional methods. To tackle this complexity, we propose an iterative optimization framework that jointly optimizes holographic beamforming patterns and user scheduling to maximize the sum-rate of RHS-assisted networks. Our approach integrates zero-forcing digital beamforming to mitigate interference, a gradient-ascent-based optimization technique for refining holographic beamforming weights, and a greedy User Scheduling strategy to dynamically allocate resources while meeting QoS constraints. Extensive simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our proposed framework, demonstrating significant improvements in sum-rate performance compared to the benchmark algorithm.
